I have always been sceptical about drinks / shots / food that claim to give you power. It’s too good to be true. But after reading all the positive comments about BEET IT, I decided to give this bad boy a try. I bought a few and started drinking one a day and for 5 days before my 100K race. Apparently one little bottle is equivalent to approximately 7 beets so you can imagine the wonderful taste of this little purple devil.

According to their website (https://www.beet-it.ca/info/benefits) :

“Beetroot juice is known to contain high concentrations of nitrates, which in turn are known to enhance vasodilatation, or the capacity of blood vessels to dilate and increase blood flow. This makes it easier for your power generators, known as mitochondria, to produce energy. It also maintains blood pressure and controls muscle contraction”

I gulped down a bottle every morning. No stomach problems and didn’t feel much difference in my body. I still felt sleepy during my morning runs haha. I took 1 more bottle on the morning of the race and 1 half way through the race (my friend thought I was vomiting blood haha). The bottle is no magic – it doesn’t suddenly give you speed or power. Don’t expect you can suddenly become an elite by drinking this stuff. However one thing I did notice is that the energy level was more sustainable. I was still tired after the 100K but not too bad. I was able to do a 7K recovery run after a day’s rest. Not sure if it’s the effect of this stuff but since my body seem to react to it quite well, I will continue to experiment with it.

P.S. Make sure you don’t spill it like what I did!
